Two possible strategies that Samuel Adams likely used to develop and improve his thinking prior to taking a stand and acting according to his beliefs are recognizing the opportunity in controversy and noting your own and others’ dissatisfactions. Samuel Adams used recognizing the opportunity in controversy by making several actions, drafting a protest against the Stamp Act in 1765, and by devising the Circular letter to the other colonies denouncing the act of taxation without representation. Committing to these actions Adams knew that this would lead to other colonies to follow his course, and take action against Britain. By building on the controversial issue of taxes, he knew others felt the same way and would be looking for a solution to these causes. Noting your own and others dissatisfaction was the means Samuel Adams possibly use to recognize the opportunity in controversy. Knowing the dissatisfaction he felt as well as others with the taxation process, Adams knew protests and writing would stir up sentiment against the British, and this would be the perfect way for people to ban together in protest and eventually bring about change. Adams knew beforehand that if he stood up against practices that was unfavorable others would soon join his cause.
