CheckPoint: Ethics Awareness Inventory – Due day 5
What I learned from my ethics awareness inventory profile is that I am a very obligated person. Meaning that the individuals’ objectives or duties determine how ethical values apply (The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management, 2011). It also shows that a person with obligated views sees ethics on an individual level, and not as a civilization or society. Someone with these values does not like to compromise when ethical principles are compromised. I have gotten in arguments with management when they do not follow the ethics policy that the company has set forth. This is normal for people of this ethical perspective.
This information enables me to understand why I react a certain way in ethical situations. This tells me that I need to slow my response to situations, and learn to compromise. The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management (2011) website also said that this could compromise my job, because of unwillingness to bend to suit the company. The action that the company may take may include termination, due to not compromising.
Social pressures do not have a lot of sway with my personal and business ethics. I believe that ethics are black and white. Now black and white does make shades of grey, but the roots are still the same. The only room for the shades of grey is compromise between ethical conflicts within myself. This has caused a lot of conflict between me and management and others. I believe that all should be treated the same. So do not make one do something that you would not make someone else do. Age, gender, race, religion do not have a place for distinction in the work place. If there is any distinction then this could be looked upon as favoritism or discrimination.
