What is Change?

Change is all around, it is constant and fluid. Many people fear and try to reject change, not realizing that it comes no matter our preferences. “Fear is one of the biggest challenges people face in managing change and moving forward in their lives”. (Mackler, 2009) Most people resist change. Even when you are aware of something needing to be changed, it is difficult to change it. Consequently, you may find it hard to integrate into your life some of skills and strategies that you know would benefit you. Old habits become comfortable and familiar part of your life, giving them up makes you insecure. If you have troubles with making changes, try following strategies for eliminating old habits and acquiring new ones.

How it works

Before you start to change, you need to get ready for it. First, you must want to change; you must have a real desire and see the value of the change. Moreover, you have to get a positive attitude. Achieving good changes is a combination of a positive attitude and a useful strategy. If you do not have a positive attitude, you cannot succeed. Finally, you need consistent effort and time. When you get these ideas in your mind, take following steps to be helpful for you.

How to apply Change

First, you must develop specific goals. Setting goals is a great beginning for change. You need to decide what the most necessary change for your current circumstances is. At this point, an important thing is that you have to set a goal to change only one thing at a time. (Heath, 2010) If you attempt to change too many things at the same time, you will become discouraged. After setting your goal, think about detailed plans for the goal.

Second, you have to be patient and often reward yourself. Lasting change requires a pattern of consistent behavior. Do not become discouraged and give up if you have not seen a complete change in a few weeks. Give yourself at least a month of progressing toward your goal. With time and...
