Since the time video games had become popular, obesity levels rising.

A growing concern was developing in the market regarding the unhealthy effects of gaming.

Because of this sales had started dropping for the whole industry.

Nintendo’s last two gaming consoles: Gamecube & Nintendo 64 had failed.

Even Sony Playstation’s sale had been on a decline because of high price tag.

There was a scope of a gaming console which could become a market leader.

Nintendo had been in the gaming market for more than two decades.

They already had markets in countries like U.S., Japan, Australasia & Europe.

So they did not go for any specific change in Target Market Strategy

Till now Nintendo’s focus had been on the young generation of Age Group 5-22 yrs.

While play station and Xbox had been popular among older Age Groups.

Nintendo wanted to capture the opportunity to come up with a console which would target both.

They still didn’t want to lose focus on the younger audience and kept games like Super Paper Mario and Legend of Zelda in their portfolio.

The console was conceived in 2001.

It was finally launched in 2006.

Being a technology based industry, 5 years of time to market was acceptable.

As development of a new technology based product is suppose to take relatively longer time.

Also there was no competition as such in the motion gaming field.

It had a controller which could sense body movement, hence the person had to actively move while playing the game.

The game involved a lot of physical activity, hence healthy lifestyle.
