2. How long will it take Kristen’s cookie company to fill a rush order of a dozen cookies? When the second dozen will be done?

It would take approximately 26 minutes for Kristen’s Cookie Company to fill a rush order of a dozen cookies. This includes 6 minutes to wash the bowl and mix the ingredients, 2 minutes to dish the dough onto a tray, 10 minutes to bake the cookies, 5 minutes to cool them, 2 minutes to package them and 1 minute to accept payment. An order of two dozen would take approximately 38 minutes. The bowl can be washed and the ingredients mixed for two dozen cookies at the same time taking 6 minutes, then one dozen can be dished on a tray taking 2 minutes (it is assumed that only 1 dozen can be dished onto a tray/not specified on the case) then placed into the oven to bake for 10 minutes. While the first batch bakes, the second batch is dished onto the tray taking 2 minutes leaving a wait time of 8 minutes for the first batch to finish. Next the first batch is removed for 5 minutes to cool and the second batch is put in the over to bake for 10 minutes. 5 minutes into the second batch’s baking, the first batch can be packaged in 2 minutes and payment accepted in 1 minute (leaving 2 minutes of wait time for the second batch). Finally, the second batch will be cooled for 5 minutes then packaged in 2 minutes and payment accepted in 1 minute.

3. Under steady state, how many dozens can Kristen’s cookie company fill in a night, assuming the company will open four hours each night?

In four hours, Kristen’s Cookie Company could produce approximately24 completed dozen batches of cookies. This is only if Kristen and her roommate split the responsibilities so that while one is packaging and accepting payment, the other can be washing, mixing and dishing all while previous batches are baking.
