Discuss whether or not Amazon has lost its identity by expanding into markets well beyond books.

Amazon has not lost their identity due to their expansion into markets well beyond books.

Amazon is presently known for not only online purchasing of books (reading materials), but

they have expanded their products into selling of dvd, cd’s, mp3downloads, computer

software, video games, apparel, toys all products related to different ages, and interests. By

adopting a strong base of selling products makes amazon.com different from other e-

commerce competitors. Amazon has been able to maintain customer loyalty due to their safe,

convenient and reliable payment system. Amazon even provides elaborate communication

regarding their transaction processing system, even providing guarantees and return policies.

With all of those benefits they will be able to gain and maintain new customers and loyalty

from current users of their site.

Recommend what Amazon should do to protect its brand.

Amazon should continue to keep up with technology however I believe they can be used as a

model for other e-commerce development and for those already established. Its continuing

offer for competitive prices and great product quality will solidify their brand. However, they

must maintain their competitiveness by updating and focusing on what customers need and

want. Amazon has gained trust by its users however they should also continue to inform their

consumers as to the data shared also and whether or not the consumer’s actions will be

exposed. Building a brand is just as important as establishing trust with consumers. I believe

Amazon has demonstrated how to maintain its brand.

Recommend what Barnes & Nobles and Borders should do to recapture some of their online and market share.
