Rugby League

Rugby League is a full contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular grass field. It originated as a split from the Rugby Union in England in 1895 over the player payments. Its rules were then changed in order to produce a more entertaining game and to appeal to spectators. It is a tough and physically demanding sport. The objective of the game is to score more points than the other team to win the game. You can score points with a try(4 points) – grounding the ball on the opposition line, which also involves a kick for conversion(2 points) after the try in line from where the ball was grounded, the ball must be kicked over the crossbar between the 2 posts. This is also necessary to score a field goal (1 point) and a penalty goal (2 points).

The physically demanding sport of rugby league requires health and skill related components of fitness:

* Aerobic Fitness – Is important in order to sustain time on the field playing to maximise the amount of minutes a player can play on the field. Without essential fitness players may burn out too quickly and not be able to play for very long.

* Strength & Power– Is required in order for players to engage in the physical side of the sport. Without these components players would struggle to be able to tackle efficiently and properly so that they may not injure themselves.

* Flexibility – Good flexibility is essential for ball kicking and running skills throughout the game and training. As well as tackling so a player is less likely to injure themselves.

* Muscular Endurance – Is crucial in order for player’s muscles to be able to continually tackle opposing players. Without this, player’s muscles can become damaged very quickly.

* Body Composition – Gives the player the opportunity to more freely move around the field, as well as longer with having a better composition of muscle rather than fat.
