LAN Operating Systems Scenarios

Read the three scenarios below, then answer the questions that follow each scenario.

1. You are the network administrator for a new company that has 10 users and plans to add five more users within a year. The files need to be accessed by all 10 users and each user must have different security rights. What kind of network would you install and how would the pieces and components of this network relate to each other? Define each component.

I would install a Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN),this is a collection of nodes that have different physical connections, but which communicate as if they are connected on a single network segment.

The pieces and components of this network work like this ,the 10 users would be on Two switched that is connected to a router. I would add the another switch to the router that they already had. The switches deployed in the network will have the ability to be configured in this way. Each client would have a (NIC).

2. You are the network administrator for a company that has a peer-to-peer network. How would the pieces and components of this network relate to each other? Define all of the components of this type of network.

When using a peer to peer network all of the computers or clients are configured to allow access to certain files .These files are shared with other clients using windows 9x or Linux. These OS function as nodes in a peer-to-peer network and provide services and request services as the user needs. The components of this type of network connection can be wired and wireless Ethernet. If it is wired you will use a category 5 twisted pair cable with an RJ45 connector. Next you have to create a subnet to connect the multiple computers to. We can use a switch or hub to do this. We will need to connect multiple networks together so we need a router to do this. The router will give us a firewall to help protect...
