Health Care Reform

The lack of healthcare of the American people has been an on-going issue over many decades. Not everyone in this great country can afford to go to the doctor or take loved ones in need of assistance when they are ill. Some people can’t even afford to be rushed to the emergency room. Those with pre-existing conditions are not able to obtain health insurance and suffer the most. There are hundreds of documented cases of people who have even lost their lives because they couldn’t afford health insurance or have no money to buy the vital medication needed to keep them alive. Because of this crisis, there is a need for some type of medical assistance in this country. The idea of assistance with healthcare has been a political topic for years. The President, along with The Democratic Party have been struggling to put some type of healthcare reform into place that will Provide affordable health insurance coverage to an estimated 30 million people who currently lack it.

The Republican Party claims that the American people did not want this bill. They feel that any bill will burden states with huge long-term liabilities. The present administration used a method which is rarely used to pass the bill. This “supermajority” method was needed because the Republican Party chose not to support this administration for whatever reason. There were rumors spread that have some American citizens up in arms. They were told that abortions would be funded with public funds. The American public was also told that there would be cuts to Medicare. This allocation was not actually true.

Scott Brown won the senate seat of the late Senator Ted Kennedy January 19, 2010.
