Why not drill?

Deciding whether or not to drill is a very hot topic since 2009, when the President started to push his agenda for America to become dependent on foreign oil. All parties involved are in favor of the United States of America becoming less dependent on foreign oil. The issue the United States of America has is the internal struggle to push the green agenda or to continue to drill for oil off the Gulf Coast, Alaska, and other areas within the United States, which at this time are not being explored. Drilling would be the best option for the U.S at this moment.

According to Data monitor, Americas account for an outlandish 75.1 of the global oil and gas sector value. This by itself would tell me the U.S needs to start relaying more on our resources locally. Again we all would agree we need to start depending on ourselves more than foreign oil. Drilling for that oil would be the best option for the United States right now. Based on the cost of becoming a greener country, the years it would take for these technologies to develop and take effect, and the growing amount of what a barrel of crude oil is costing. Today the price of a barrel of crude oil is between $95.00 and $119.00. In 2008, the price of a barrel of crude oil reached a high of $147.00. Since then those prices have slightly went down. Developer Gary Christensen has a $50 million green project that would include only 75,000 sq ft of office space, 15,000 sq ft of retail space and parking for 400 cars (Whitson, Marc). Although, this might sound like a great project, the amount of space this is being done on is just a very small percentage of what the United States has to offer. Going green could be very expensive and would only cost tax payers more money a lot of us do not have. Drilling oil would save tax payers money at the pump, heating their homes, and other items oil is used for. The other issue with going...
