May I ask you a question? Who is your favorite hero and why? If ever I ask you this question, I guess characters topping my answer list would be the super strength of Super Man, the icky webs of Spider Man, the charm of Wonder Woman, intelligence of Batman and lightning speed of the Flash. Perhaps it is the elastic power of Lastikman, or the prowess of our other local superheroes. Or maybe, some of you skipped out of fiction and related their parents, siblings, friends, relatives, national heroes and other people as their main superheroes of their life.

Different attributes and characteristics made those heroes stood out among the common people. It may be because of their special powers, charm, guidance and everything. Well, so much for those heroes. If you will ask me what would be my answer to my question, well, now, lend me your ears as I share to you my answer.

My hero, or heroes actually, are those not in tights and capes. Not even those who wear their underwear outside. They don’t have the ability to fly, nor crush walls, destroy buildings, kill a monster or do anything supernatural. They are just normal people wearing normal clothes, just like we are, but unlike with us, they have chalk and board as their weapons, class records as their area of supervision within their vicinity and tons of books and other paraphernalia as their bank of knowledge. I guess you knew it already, and yes, they are our teachers.

But wait, that’s not all about them. We have been witnesses on how hardworking and persevering out teachers are. Despite the long talks and discussion, they never get tired of imparting knowledge. Despite standing in front for a one-hour class, they endure every muscle pain possible. Despite the failing marks and low grades, they continue to care for us, to check every now and then our academic and behavioral status. And most of all, despite all of those lousy, sleepy, talkative, and naughty students, there they are, patiently...
