Definition of CSR

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can be defined by a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interactions with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis. CSR has been a collection of different related terms; corporate philanthropy, corporate responsibility, business ethic, corporate citizenship, social responsible investment, stakeholding, sustainability, and etc. The terms of CSR were defined by various groups of people and organization. However, the main purpose of CSR is generally focused on the enterprise activities that lead to the positive outcome toward employees and stakeholders. Moreover, the company activities must concern about the impact to environment, society and customers that it should give advantages to them either.

Historical Review of CSR

The history of corporate social responsibility (CSR), referred to as corporate citizenship, stems from the idea that companies, like individual persons, should behave in a socially responsible way. The concept includes all activities and undertakings, especially in their dealings with other parties. Their moral responsibility to society should always be considered in all levels of planning, and during the implementation of those plans, and their normal operations.
