Maintaining good nutrition is important. It is normal to eat and to have the desire to eat because a person is hungry and their stomach is growling or a person is tired and needs energy, but all too often, many eat without really thinking about what they are putting into their bodies and what benefits or harm certain foods may be doing. Food provides the energy that people need to keep going. Just as the battery to laptop needs to be charged or you would need to refuel a car, human bodies are made the same way. The food that is eaten provides the energy needed in order to function. The assignment in week one was given to allow a student to chart the foods that is eaten for a three days then to submit it to the site for evaluation on what is ingested and how it compares to what is recommended. What was entered into the site was compared against the daily recommendations of a particular foods group while also giving suggestions on what can be improved upon. This allowed me to see first-hand what my diet really consists of and to examine the areas for improvement.

Throughout the few short days of the assignment, I was able to see areas I severely lacked in, which happened to be a lot of the important ones. I had very low intake for vegetables and fruits. I didn’t take in that much protein and it is suggested for that to be higher. The average percent of fat and saturated fat that I ingested was higher than the pyramid suggested. The average grams intake for fat is 42 while mine would range daily in the 60’s. The average intake in grams for saturated fat is 12.7 while mine was in the high twenties. The pyramid also suggested that I intake more carbohydrates which surprised me as I had eaten a lot of starches. The diet that I keep is really not good for me. I eat breakfast almost every morning, have lunch, and dinner. I still seem to over eat at times and I don’t know if...
