FedEx Advances Corporate Responsibility Efforts

Introduction

At a time when our country is in a financial crisis and people and corporations are looking for ways to cut spending it is important for corporations to take a stand in making sure that good ethics and corporate social responsibility are included in their operational and production plans.

The article presented here introduces the way the one corporation used the techniques of corporate social responsibility as a means of connecting with the world, while at the same time using good ethical sense to create an economic opportunity for the business and the people of the community.

Literature Review

Before we begin the discussion on this article there are a couple of key terms that should be defined in order to determine how they relate to this piece of literature.

Corporate Social Responsibility cannot be studied without first describing how it came about and what it means for business. Corporate Social Responsibility or also known as CSR started showing up in operational plans at the start of the 20th century when corporations were being attacked for being too big and too powerful and for not showing any concern for the good of society and its people (Lawrence, Weber, 2011). CSR deals with the way that corporations use power and resources voluntarily to create a better environment and better opportunities for the people rather than for creating a sole profit for the company.

FedEx is a 39 billion dollar company and have been ranked as having the most admired and trusted employees. You can see CSR being initiated in a variety of programs by this transportation giant. FedEx is a huge believer in disaster relief programs, education, road safety programs, alternative energy efforts, and employee recognition (FedEx, 2011, para 8).
