The Experience of Studying Aboard

Title: My love, my dream, Kyoto

In 1492, historically famous Italian explorer Christopher Columbus finally

discovered America. At that time, people who were with Columbus even did not

know about the geographical locations of not only America but also around the

world. On the book “Book of Privileges” written by Christopher Columbus on

1502, it said that on the boat of voyage, there was only 3 things; Eagerness to

find the new world, crews, and me (Christopher Columbus). The reason they could

find the new continent was just the one. They had definite purpose on their own

mind. They already acknowledge their goals, and know what should have to do.

By rely on each other and doing one’s own responsibility, finally they could find

blessed land, “America”.

Although techniques were changed rapidly, the circumstances of 15th

century’s Columbus’ and 21st century’s mine are quite similar on various ways. In

2011 March 23rd, I finally arrived at Japan. At that time, I didn’t know Japanese,

even Hiragana and Katakana. The thing that I just can do was keep speaking

English as easy as possible to make Japanese to understand my word. I even did

not know where my dormitory is, and where is my University, Doshisha. Although,

the land of Japan was so strange place to me, in my mind I had dream which

want to accomplish in Japan.

Before I came to Japan, I had ungovernable longings to Japan, especially

about Kyoto. My ungovernable longing of Japan is based on historical

backgrounds and family. Starting from late 19th century, when Korea was in

Chosun dynasty, Korea was colonized by Japan. Still now, there are many people

in Korea, who hate Japan without good reason, just for historical problem. Unlike

most of people in Korea, our family had a special relationship with Japan. My
