In this paper examples of how internet policies and email restrictions are applied in most workplace environment now a day will be presented. How privacy policies have their advantages and disadvantages in our day to day functions and why many companies have established them. Examples of my workplace will be presented as well in order to give facts on a specific company.

Many companies believe that if they do let their employees spend time surfing the internet most of the time they will spend it in chat rooms discussing personal situations, or visiting stores sites for the latest fashions or trends, or downloading food recipes, or, to visit porn sites. It might surprise you to know that even though it sounds unbelievable yes, there have been numerous cases of employees getting caught visiting porn sites. Several years ago I worked for a Recruiting Firm, we hired mainly for Pharmaceuticals, Medical Devices and other manufacturing companies. We had a managerial position to fill in a manufacturing company and once we successfully selected the candidate he began to work immediately. Weeks later we received a phone call from the HR Manager of that manufacturing company asking us how to handle a situation that came up with the candidate we had selected for their organization. It so happens that this person was surfing the web and entering in porn sites a couple of hours per day. This person did not know that the company from outside of the physical building would monitor all the computers. The candidate was told once about the incident and given a warning. Fortunately this behavior did not continue however, it became an uncomfortable situation for management.

Reality is that we have all used computers for personal use. It has been rare if we do not. Just like we will use the phone, fax or copier for...
