During the creation of Huntsville Plant schedule and allocation of resources, I did realize that the project will not be completed by the deadline set by the board of directors of Seitz Cooperation, which is June 30, 2012. Based on the Huntsville plant task list the last phase of the task ends on July 5, 2012, a week after the deadline. I would also like to note that based on the initial schedule timeline the completion in weeks is 63.4 weeks compared to the actual schedule timeline of 64 weeks.
There are few things that can be done to ensure that the project meet and exceed the deadline of Seitz Cooperation. Based on the schedule, I observed that preparation phase was allocated 47 weeks for completion. However, 40 weeks out of the phase is allocated for Construct Building task. I would suggest as the project manager that we should hire temporary contractors to expedite the building construction due to the fact that the project has the financial capabilities to hire contractor and make use of other available resources to complete that task. Doing this would save the project time by not affecting the schedule and scope.
Another observation is that Plant Readiness Phase has 56 weeks allocated for the completion of this phase. It’s known that 24 weeks of the task is allocated for the procurement of equipment to the Huntsville new plant. The Time allocated to the procurement of equipment can be reduce by allocating more experience personnel and other resources to expedite the task. This would open up more or readjust time for the completion of other activities on the critical path that are outlined in red.
