Since time immemorial, the society lives up to the expectation that men are better than women in any aspects. This is further evidenced by the greatest number of men leaders, heroes and other influenced people. For instance, with the basic form of society, men are referred to be the head of the family. On the other hand, women were always associated to men which in a family, as the light of the family. Thus women cannot stand on its own and are supposedly reserved, understanding and passive and the other way around are men's characteristics. With this, at times men acknowledge women with their success with phrases we hear "behind every man's success there is a woman".

The mindset of men predomination over women is also evident in literature. However thru time, women became brave enough to discuss equality (feminism) in gender differences which is often dictated by men's discourse. The following women characters in the short stories even in our early times of literature exemplifies that women have also the capacity to be equal to men.

In the story the virgin, Ms. Mijares shows that women are marginalized physiologically. And in order to show that women could also achieve what a man can Ms. Mijares illustrates the role as a bread winner of her family. She had an education that made her a human resource manager. In this regard also, Julia of the dead stars shows how women are marginalized psychologically and in the story she simply showed that even if she was hurt she still managed to go on her way. Esperanza of the same story though do not want to argue with Alfredo as expected of her however on the frequent occasion that she felt something unjust to her being the girlfriend she had the courage to confront him.
