Glimpse on Terrorism and

Communication Technology

Today terrorism is the number one subject within every society. Nevertheless, the United States didn’t start paying that much attention to this growing phenomenal until the aftermath of 9/11. Although, we are the center of the flow of information to the rest of the world, our media fools us and emerged us with many worthless events like Ana Nicole Smith’s death, the disappearance of Natalie Holloway in Aruba, and so forth. At the same time, the extremists have already placed us on the top of their list as a principle target. These radical groups took advantage of the existent communication technology (TV, Internet, and Satellite) and used as double edge to promote destruction around the world.

In my research I touch the following subject:

• History of terrorism.

• Religion involvement: does religion promote violence?

• The use ICT to promote violence, hates speech, and spreading propaganda. Examples: certain Iranian and Lebanese broadcasting programs.

• Examples of certain Website that promote Jihad: Al Muhajiroun, Maktab-al-Jihad, WAMY.

• ICT has been used by Muslim scholars to reach more Muslims around the word “Al Khomeini, a Torabi”.

• Al-Jazeera is a foe or friend?

Conclusion

Change our approach toward other cultures.
