Human-Computer interaction throughout most of our lives has been through some type of physical interface, from punch cards to keyboards and mice, but as technology has increased our need to interact naturally with computers and the dept in which we envisioned it possible to interact also has increased. We as humans naturally interact with each other mainly through speech, and with the advancements in technology and the expectation for ease of use by consumers, speech recognition has become a popular resource in numerous industries from health care, military, telephony, general consumer needs, and to people with disabilities. Across the board speech recognition is quickly making its way into many realms. It shows varying degrees of promise, but with all new arrivals there comes certain barriers to be broken,

According to industry experts at its inception, speech recognition (SR) was sold as a way to completely eliminate transcription rather than make the transcription process more efficient, hence it was not accepted,” [1] but nevertheless speech recognition has found a promising role in the medical field and is constantly venturing into other arenas. Speech recognition has been a powerful tool to enable deaf people to communicate via speech to text conversion. Speech recognition is also used in documentation, within electronic form filling, and medical records. “Searches, queries, and form filling may all be faster to perform by voice rather than by using a keyboard.” [1]
