Let's Have a Laugh

One of the oldest genres of movies, Comedys appeared in some of the first silent movies in the 20's. Born from stand up comedians, Comedy is the best movie genre for one reason. They make us laugh. Wheater to laugh at someones carelessness or chuckle at something that reminds us of our own lives, everyone needs laughter in their lives. Since the 1900's comedy movies have been becoming increasingly popular, making way for more types of comedy.

There are many different types of comedy movies; slapstick comedies in which silly things occur, parodies or spoofs that make fun of other movie or people, romantic comedies where couples meet in funny situations and fall in love or endure laughable events in their relationship, Horror movies have also ventured over to the “comedy” genre with films like the Scary Movies series.

Comedy movies often involve a funny situation that the main character or characters find themselves in. An antagonist such as a authority figure or a bully is also a common trait. Often the plot of these movies include being wrongly accused of a crime or somehow involveld with the “wrong side” of the law like in the movie My Cousin Vinny or O Brother Where Art Thou? .

In My Cousin Vinny, two friends Billy and Stan, driving through the south while on their way back to college, find themselves falsely accused of murder, when in fact the only thing they did wrong was shoplift a can of tuna. The antics that follow make you forget about the fact that there was a murder and draw you into to these two young mens plight to prove their innocnesence.

In the case of the movie O Brother Where Art Thou? three prisoners escape from prison to find a fictiscious treasure and discover a lot more valuble life lessons along the way, while showing themselves to be the “averge joe” kind of guys that just happen to find themselves in quite a few precareous situations.

I think My Cousin Vinny best represents the law...
