Abstract
Community health department are face with numerous complaints of flu symptoms in rural areas which could be diagnosis for the flu and would be misdiagnosis for just that. Precaution must be taken in order to determine sickness from different symptoms of fever, vomiting and diarrhea as well as stomach ache. Influenza the flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by a virus spread through coughing, sneezing, and touching items that are contaminated with the virus on doorknobs, keyboards and etc. Individuals with the flu are infectious 1- 2 days before showing symptoms and during their entire illness. Symptoms of the flu includes: Fever of more than 100°, Cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue, and vomiting and diarrhea.
In this paper I will try to determine what cause the absent of student from two schools on certain days and the reason for the absentees by comparing data from attendance data, interviews with parents and students, and restaurant inspections. Student that has complain of flu-like symptoms were reported to the Community Health Department for further investigation.
The Community Health Department received a letter from Truman and Jackson Middle Schools of a possible health problem among her students. Principal Perez is concerned of a widespread outbreak of the flu. Why were students absent from Truman and Jackson school?
When looking at the absentee of the student at Truman, and Jackson Middle Schools the unusual spike of absentee were taken place during band class on the 20th of May. During these times the percentage of student on those particular days was very high. 33.3% reported absent at Truman and 25.0% at Jackson (“Independent School District 12 Intranet”).
The student were absent with signs of stomach ache, diarrhea, vomiting and fever which are some common signs of the flu. Symptoms of the flu includes:...
