April 3, 1940

Great Britain named Winston Churchill as chairperson of the Ministerial Defense Committee (New World Encyclopedia, n.d.). Churchill immediately installed his friend and confidants close to him and in office such as Baron Max Aitken (New World Encyclopedia, n.d.). Baron Max Aitken or Lord Beaverbrook was placed in charge of aircraft production (New World Encyclopedia, n.d.). Aitkin’s astounding business genus increased aircraft production and engineering, which made significance in the war (New World Encyclopedia, n.d.). Also Churchill’s close relationship with the United States of America President Franklin Roosevelt ensured Great Britain’s vital supplies along the North Atlantic Ocean shipping routes (New World Encyclopedia, n.d.). The placement of Winston Churchill as the chairperson of the Ministerial Defense Committee was considered one Britain’s major achievement major in the history of World War II (New World Encyclopedia, n.d.).

December 7, 1941

President Franklin D. Roosevelt of the United States of America stated, "December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy," words spoken from the White House to the American Nation following the attack on Pearl Harbor (Anderson, n.d.). Admiral Nagumo led the Imperial Japanese attack against the U.S. Naval Base Pearl Harbor with 423 planes and six carriers at approximately six a.m. on a Sunday morning (Anderson, n.d.). During the first wave of Japanese attack 83 United States planes took off to defend the U.S. Pacific Fleet (Anderson, n.d.). However, three primary targets avoided disaster, the U.S. Pacific Fleet aircraft carriers, the Lexington, Enterprise, and Saratoga (Anderson, n.d.).
