Koch Industries is one of the largest privately held companies. Koch is based out of Wichita, Kansas and has over 800,000 employees in 500 communities, in 60 different countries. Koch companies are involved in refining and chemicals, process equipment and technologies, minerals, fibers and polymers, commodity and financial trading, and forest and consumer products. Koch Nitrogen Company located in Beatrice, Nebraska is a multi-million dollar anhydrous ammonia plant that is part of Koch Industries. Koch goal is to use resources efficiently, protect the environment, and comply with all federal and state laws to protect employees and others. Koch is committed to safety and non-compliance is unacceptable.

One way Koch assures compliance is following OSHA standards which are complaint with State and Federal laws. Anhydrous ammonia is a high health hazard if a human would come in contract with more than 300 ppm it would be fatal. Anhydrous ammonia will cause corrosive to the skin, eyes and lung that is why employees at the Koch plant must pass and be trained at various hazard product programs. All Koch employees are aware and trained in all possible chemical spills or release that can happen at the plant. Every Koch employee has first aid, emergency response training, and confinement training, haz whop training and full knows how to use all chemical gear and respiration equipment that is OSHA approved (Personal communication, 2009). One of OSHA standards is to have an emergency action plan in written form for employees. Koch has a manual for each employee and in every station at the Beatrice plant. The emergency action plan contains information on how to report fires, releases, spills, or any other emergency.
