Healthcare organizations are one of the largest growing industries in the country. In order to keep sufficient progress the organizations must upgrade equipment and undergo several changes. One of these changes are selecting an information system the health care information system should simplify the transmission of patient, departmental, and institutional information to the various stakeholders. Throughout this paper there will be areas of information systems and its process, the organizations goals and stakeholders and there roles. These elements play a major role in selecting the perfect information system.
Selecting and Acquiring Process
The Health care information system must be maintained, updated, and supported this is part of selecting and acquiring the right application. The process an organization generally goes through in planning, selecting, implementing, and evaluating a health care information system is known as the systems development life cycle (SDLC). The systems development process itself involves participation from individuals with different backgrounds and areas of expertise. The specific mix of individuals depends on the nature and scope of the new system (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2009). However during the planning stage it is important for the organization to examine their current systems and problems in order to make changes or improvements. As part of the needs assessment, it is also vital to gather, organize, and evaluate information about the environment in which the new system is to operate. Through defining system requirements the organization specifies what the system should be able to do and the terms of will it reach its goals.
