Academics

NRHS offers a wide range of classes. You have your core regent classes such as Math, American and World History, Science and 4 years of English. Each of these subjects have various electives that you can enlist in during your junior and senior years such as statistics, history of art, sociology, astronomy, forensic science, and various English electives your senior year. Whatever your knitch is you’ll find a class that will appeal to you. There are a wide range of business classes like marketing (as well as sports, fashion, and tourism marketing), business law, business management, and accounting. Each of these classes offers a college-level course which gives you 3-credits with successful completion. Also if you complete 5 business classes you’ll receive a special stamp on your diploma and mark on your transcript. There are also architecture and sketching classes.

The faculty can be something admired or looked down upon. Most teachers at are school are great at what they do and love doing it. I personally have yet to come across a teacher I didn’t like. Yes some are better than others but I never had a real problem with any of my teachers.

Now one of the thing NRHS is praised for is its music and arts department. The whole “new wing” building in dedicated to visual arts, music, and dance. The lower level is the band, orchestra, and chorale rooms as well as the second cafeteria and an auditorium that is doubles as a lecture hall. The upper level is all the art classes such as ceramics, drawing & painting, graphics, and photography. The upper level also contains one of the dance rooms. The indoor bridge to the new wing is a popular place to relax and study during frees but it also houses two galleries which frequently host student artwork and individual work.
