Stakeholder Dynamics

The growing increase of individuals without health care coverage is causing great concern and has caught the attention of the stakeholders that could suffer because of this. There is a higher probability that being uninsured will make individuals more likely to not get adequate regular treatments of care or obtain less than adequate treatment of care due to simply not being able to afford the services needed. There is no question that having health insurance has a greater potential for individuals to have better health outcomes in the long run. Preventative health screenings can have the potential of placing individuals at a better advantage to not have to experience declining health thus they would be able to remain productive within the workforce lessening the time away one could lose due to not having health insurance. Ultimately, it is clear that no one should have to go without health care but are the costs associated with maintaining this notion too burdensome?

Whether the choice is made by the employee to not have insurance or the employee cannot simply afford insurance, it is still clear that the cost of the uninsured is costing the U.S. massive amount of money each year. Having access to health care is a prerequisite to obtaining quality health care. “The financial burden of uncompensated care is severe for hospitals and physicians across the nation.” (Johnson, 2009, p. 272). With lack of health insurance people tend to wait to obtain preventative treatment as well as life threatening treatment of care. Because of this, more and more individuals are waiting until the last minute and receive treatment from an emergency room visit pushing the already existing costs even higher. Waiting until the last minute to try and obtain treatment of care is still not even an option for many.
