RED is commonly referred to the most vibrant and powerful colour out of all colours. Red is a colour that often symbolic excitement, energy, passion, love, desire, strength, power, danger, fire and intensely passionate. Since centuries ago, red has been a famous colour in almost all cultures. For instance, red color is denotes as purity, joy and celebration in Chinese culture that used to attract good luck. Since I was young, Chinese New Year is filled with red colour from clothing to food to television advertisement that often use red colour to promote the festive season.

Well, red colour in today’s advertising is often being used to grab attention and to get people to take action. The best example is the SALE sign in super markets and shopping centre where you can see a large, red coloured sign to attract shopper’s attention and encourage action to purchase more. Red is the hottest colour of the warm colour, which makes it stand out among colours. Besides, it also has a physical effect that boost the rate of respiration and raising the blood pressure of a person (Ego development, 2008).

Thus, because of the striking nature of the colour and emotions, red is gaining popularity in advertising design and even fashion. Louboutin, for example, is a stylish shoe brand that is popular in using red in its collection. Food, on the other hand, is also an ideal advertising category for red colour. If you look into your fridge right now, you’ll probably see lots of red colour food packaging design. Tomato sauces, for instance, is red in colour to show that it is fresh and full of flavor. Besides that, red colour is the best choice for advertising when it comes to fast food, which indicates speed and stimulates excitement.
