Mike Krzyzweski (Coach K), a native to Chicago, Illinois, is one of the most dominant college coaches of his time. His coaching career began in The United States Military Academy at West Point, where he also played college basketball under his mentor the legendary Bobby Knight. Coach Knight later offered him a job as a graduate assistant at Indiana University. That 1975 squad posted an 18-0 Big Ten mark and a 31-1 record. He arrived at Duke in 1980. He led Duke to three NCAA National Championships (1991, 1992, and 2001) and to ten Final Fours. His three championships tied him third all-time with Bob Knight (3) behind John Wooden (11) and Adolph Rupp (4), all of whom are members of the Basketball Hall of Fame. In over 20 years at Duke, Coach K compiled more than 600 career wins and was the highest winning coach in NCAA Tournament history with 66 wins.

With ten Final Four appearances, Coach K ranked third all-time in most Final Four appearances. From 1988 to 1992 he led Duke to five straight Final Four appearances and his ten Final Four victories rank second. Coach K led Duke to nine ACC Tournament Championships and ten ACC Regular Season Championships. He has been named ACC Coach of the Year five times and ranks second in most ACC wins. He was named National Coach of the Year 10 times in 7 seasons. He was an assistant coach on the Gold Medal team in the 1992 Olympics. He was named the NABC Coach of the Decade for the 1990s. Coach K had unprecedented success at Duke, winning three national championships, and making Duke the powerhouse basketball school that they are today.
