Public-Service Bulletin: This is a service bulletin for the public in the Tampa bay area. This is to inform you to watch out for certain things.

* Summer is the best time for family to cook outside or go to outside events such as the fair and festivals. It is even more important to follow food safety steps in the summer because food borne illness increases. Foods or beverages being contaminated with germs cause food borne illnesses. Fairs and festivals lack the proper safety devices that a kitchen has like thermostat-controlled cooking, refrigeration, and restroom to wash your hands. You also should check your can goods for bulging and your jars to make sure the lids are tight and not crack. Some people may have eaten raw or poorly cooked foods, raw or undercooked eggs, meats, shellfish, fish, unpasteurized milk or juices, home canned goods, fresh produce, or soft cheeses made from unpasteurized milk.

* Peoples with foodborne illnesses sometimes shows symptoms like stomach virus, vomiting, diarrhea, and even abdominal pain however, nonspecific symptoms and neurologic symptoms may also occur. Every outbreak begins with a person who may not be severely ill some of the most known food borne infections that might happen from not properly storing your foods is Campylobacter, Salmonella, and E.Coli. Make sure you cook your food, meat, and poultry plus your eggs thoroughly use a thermometer to measure, the inside meat, this is a very good way to be sure that it is cooked well to kill bacteria. When cooking ground beef you should cook it to a temperature of 160o F. Your eggs should be cook until the yolk is firm.
