1) What patterns to you see in the distribution of earthquakes across the continental United States? In researching the earthquake patterns across the United States.

According to the map, earthquakes are more likely to happen in the western part of the United States, and some areas in the south. Earthquakes tend to happen more around water like oceans, rivers and lakes. According to the map, Washington, Oregon, California will most likely experience earthquakes in the future, and California already has experienced quite a few of them. These states are sitting on the Pacific Ocean where the Andreas Fault runs through Indiana, Wyoming, and Utah are at a high risk of experiencing earthquakes as well. All of the middle states of the United States do not have a high chance of experiencing an earthquake in the future.

2) Locate your home on this map and make a note of the relative risk to you by indicating the color where you live.

In locating my residential area on the map (South Easter Illinois), I live in an area that is susceptible to an earthquake, but the zone that I live in does not often have them. I have lived here for 7 years and we have had one Earthquake about 18 miles south from my home.

3) What patterns do you see in the distribution of earthquakes around the world?

There are earthquakes appearing in different parts of the world on a daily basis. Allot of the quakes appear along the coast of California and in different parts of the Pacific Ocean.
