Gold’s Gyms network that houses over 50 corporate locations kept having outages with the DSL network. Finally they decided to upgrade, after looking into different services ranging from satellite frame relay and an array of DSL providers, they decided to upgrade to VoIP. As shown in the study below it has saved the company $6,000-$10,000 so far and look to save additional money in the future. This improves operations because they are able to VoIP conference instead of the before conference calls that would drop on a DSL line. Over time this will be more cost effective because they are not charged by each call that they make. There are few different advantages to having VoIP such as low cost, portability, and features. The cost is significantly lower than that of DSL or Cable which allows the company to grow in other areas, while having an upgrade to their phone service. This seems to most a big change, but when it is broken down and people start realizing how much they will really save it hits home. This example should help generate more VoIP users throughout businesses due to the amount it saved them in short term. Portability because calls can be made from anywhere, as long as there is a broadband connection; the customer just needs to log into their account. The features on VoIP have the same features as regular lines, but have added features such as data and video/pictures while having the conversation with the receiving party. Call forwarding, call waiting, voicemail, caller id and three-way calling are some of the regular features that you would find on both systems.
