The curse of the Golden Maine

CHAPTER ONE: The End of Technology and Everything we Believed Before

The scientists were so proud of themselves. The cure for AIDS. For two years the world seemed peaceful, no more wars raging, a once death plague cured. You would think that if they could cure something so terrifying they could cure something so simple like the cold or flu. Sometimes things are better left alone.

It started with a killer flu virus. Actually it was several strung in a row: the bird flu, swine flu, H1N1 flu virus and finally the pet flu virus. Millions of people died. Most house pets were exterminated. Only those with lots of money could afford to keep their beloved pets safe from the mobs of people out to destroy them. The pet organizations’ all but disappeared. Only the few really dedicated animal lovers still fought for animal’s rights. Most of your regular save the whalers stop carrying for good old Fido. Three years the flu swiped over the earth again and again. Eventually they cured that to, and pet vaccinations cost a lot of money but it was mandatory to get them for any pet.

Then all the survivors of aids and the super flu’s became sick with new super aids. Only this time it was an airborne pathogen. Humanity snapped. Everyone who was sick was torched, dead or alive. Soon every cold became wide spread panic. Families had to fight other family whenever a child was sick because someone always suggested they die to save the rest of the communities. Total anarchy, riots broke out everywhere. Governments fell. Technology was blamed, people revolted against it. They believed scientists were to blame for all the diseases. No more laser testing, no more superhuman cloning. No more plasma TVs. Funding for such projects was ripped from the companies like NASA, Sony. The people didn’t care what was on the moon and unless you could fund it yourself, you crumbled.
