Re: Need more time for a site survey
Site Survey and Increased time
Regarding the wireless network project, it is essential that we have the time and resources to conduct a site survey prior to specifying and installing the network.
The site survey will allow us to find out what other wireless networks are in the area. We are an office and we’re looking to become wireless, the last thing we want would be to go wireless and have another office on the same frequency and lose out on data and speed. In order to minimize interference and optimize performance we need to determine which network band will work ideal for us. Purchasing devices that support multiple bands such as 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz will cost a lot more than if we decided before hand what band would be ideal and getting devices specifically for that band. If cost wasn’t enough of a reason, we also would have to spend additional time configuring each device to the proper band, where as if we bought band specific products we could potentially save time.
The survey will also save on time by allowing us to plan the network more accurately and save cost by allowing is to determine what channels and signal strength is needed relative to the other wireless networks in the area. If we determine this upfront, we can avoid a lot of potential extra time and cost. Time, because if we setup a wireless network and another wireless network is interfering with it we have to take the time to reconfigure the network and devices that use the network properly. If we can’t reconfigure them, then we would need to actually spend more money on devices that weren’t interfering with the other networks in the building or surrounding area.
