Using Meta Tags

I found this website and when I got to reading it and it made since to me on how things and how websites use the Meta tag that you create. I really do not understand why they would have said not to really use them, you want a browser to use as many words as they can to determine were your website will be listed and have the ability of getting the most hits. From what I was reading if you don’t have a meta tag a browser will just look at the first line of your website and go off of it so it you have a funny word in there you may not get any hits or very few because people cannot find you. There are three ways that a Meta tag are used for one is that a Meta tag describes your site in a search result. The seconded way it is used is to index your webpage which I think is like categorizing your website. Last and but not least it determines which keywords your website would be listed under. There are also 3 types of Meta tags that are used Meta description tag, Meta robots tag, and Meta Keywords tag. A description tag is written like this <meta name=“description” content=“whatever you description would be” /> this is what you would use or general use if you were writing a raw html page. Doing this also will make your description show up on a search engine so people could read a little about your page before enter it. Most search engines only allow up to hundred and fifty charters so try and make short and to the point. Now using a robots tag from what I am gathering it lets other search engines to check through your website and using the links on the page. This is written fairly quick so might as well add it in on your webpage so it would give more search engines the ability to add your site to their stuff making it so more people can hit your page. This code is written a follows <Meta name=“robots” content=“index, follow” /> so as you can see not long might as well add it. Most search engines recognize this tag. Last one...
