Poetry and fantasy are different types of literature in which somehow manage to create emotions within the reader. The reader is allowed to expand their imagination and connect with the piece. The author of each piece must be careful with the choice of words and layout of the piece to keep the focus of the reader and not lose them within the words. Both pieces must be creative and heighten the reader’s senses, especially their emotions and imagination.

Poetry is a form of literary art in which words are arranged in patterns of sound and imagery to arouse emotions and intellectual responses from the reader. Poetry sparks the imagination and heightens feelings and emotions. For the writer it is a self-expression of emotions. In poetry the line is the basic unit of the poem, which may be short or long, it can rhyme with other lines or repeat lines and several lines may be formed to make a stanza. The purpose of poetry is to evoke deep emotions and move us by leaving a lasting impression.

Fantasy is a fictional genre in literature. It is a story of the impossible which has helped shape the imagination. Fantasy pieces may include magic, talking animals, time travel and supernatural elements, in which most likely take place in a magical imaginary world, causing the setting, characters and plot to be complex. A fantasy story, although fictional, must be believable but are limited with rules to distinguish the fantasy from reality. The believability of a fantasy piece evokes emotions just like poetry because it allows the reader to experience a different world and explore their imaginations that allow them to escape the normal in their life. This creates feelings of excitement, curiosity and the longing for an adventure.
