Protein & Fat Content in Protein Nutrition Bars

Purpose: Determine whether there is a linear relationship between the price of the energy bars and the protein content.

Does there appear to be a linear relationship? If so, exactly what is the relationship?

High Protein, meal replacement bars have continued to gain popularity over the past few years. Between the body builders and the athletic groups, they prove to offer a nutritional supplement while offering a quick energy boost for those heavy workouts. The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a relationship between the price of energy bars and their protein & fat content.

Life is busy. With full time jobs, school, family, friends, pets, kids, appointments, and errands, we barely have enough time to relax, let alone sit down to a healthy meal. These busy lifestyles have lead to a market increase in the various nutritional snack bars.

Procedure: Collected nutritional information from product labels and store websites on August 1, 2011.

Data Collection: Used the internet via www.google.com to search for thirty of the most popular protein nutrition bars. Located the brands website and found the nutrition label containing the serving size, protein and fat content as well as the average cost per bar. I gathered the data and put into an excel spreadsheet to capture the differences between each brand. Since not all brands have the same serving size I had to use a baseline serving size, which was 50 grams to determine the amount of sodium per serving size.

Data: Brand names, serving size, price, protein & fat content.
