Explain the importance of strategy planning.

Strategic planning is an important aspect in healthcare. It allows the healthcare organizations to develop a plan to help manage and organize the development of the healthcare organization. Strategic planning or plan of action, gives healthcare organizations a clear hold on how the organization is doing, why it is doing it, and where can the healthcare organization go in the future. Strategic planning is important because it helps to improve hospital performance, determine the direction of the hospital and provide excellent, quality of care to the community.

Describe the five main steps that have to be taken to build a strategic plan for a healthcare organization.

The first step would be developing the business. This is where the history of amis, policies, and achievements come into play. This allows the stakeholder as well as the physicians understanding of why the business is being formed/created. Also, other factors that are part of the main steps are current preferences of owners and management, market environment, resources, and distinctive competencies.

The second step is customer identification which focuses on what type of customers, where are they, what characteristics they may have, make customers an important aspect to creating the business.

The third would be the value proposition which deals with the capability of having the opportunity to take part in trade offs for the best products and services.

The fourth would be goal setting. This is where the goals must match the the mission statement of the healthcare organization. The goals focus on if it is clear, meets the requirements of the mission statement, well defined, and measurable. Goals must also be prioritized and have a set date to where they can be completed.
