Mosque at Ground Zero

After looking at different view points on the mosque to be built in New York, I realized that there are very strong opinions regarding both sides of the issue. Not being Muslim myself, I can relate more to the side of the issue that is opposed to building the mosque. With that being said, however, when I started to have an open mind about the issue, I did come to the realization that there’s more to building the mosque than terrorists who want to pray near the site of 9/11.

One of the articles I read explained that the site to be built was not actually a mosque, but rather a “cultural center with a prayer room -- not a single-purpose house of worship for Muslims”. It is also brought up in this particular article that the center will not actually be at Ground Zero. The center will be located one-tenth of a mile from the actual Ground Zero site, and you would have to walk out of your way to get there from Ground Zero. It is also stated in the article that “it is designed as a multi-use complex with a space set aside for prayer -- no minarets, no muezzin calls to prayer blaring onto Park Place". There are also Muslims who lost their friends and family because of the tragedy that affected so many Americans. It was not just Christian Caucasians who were affected on the date of September 11, 2001. There were many different people from different races and religions that had their families torn apart. It is important when looking at this issue in particular, that we remember that not all Muslims are the same people who blew up the World Trade Centers.

Those who oppose the building of the “mosque” argue that it would not be appropriate to build a religious building that would support the same religion of those people who tore apart millions of families forever.
