Marketing Week One Definitions and Examples
While surfing the Internet and viewing websites such as Youtube, advertisements about what music, or topic viewers are watching play before or during the video. As annoying as this may be to viewers, as a manufacturer of a good or service, this provides one of the best ways of product placement. Aspects of marketing involve products, budgets, and timing. In this paper, the subject to discuss is how marketing is defined by me, and two different sources, explain the importance of marketing in organizational success, and provide three examples from the business world to support the explanation (University of Phoenix, 2011).
Marketing as defined by the author is: the science of promoting a good or service to generate interest and sales for the company that produces the product. In 2008, the American Marketing Association (AMA) released its official definition as: “Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.” The final definition places emphasis on the customers. Marketing: the process by which companies create value for customers and build strong customer relationships in order to capture value from customers in return (Armstrong & Kotler, 2009).
Successful marketing campaigns are very important to organizations by helping the companies grow in market share and brand familiarization. The most important benefit of a successful marketing campaign is the income earned from sales of the products the campaign promoted from a variety of advertising media. From the Internet to printed paper, the most memorable advertising campaigns are still ingrained into the memories of people worldwide. Effective marketing has also had an influence on American culture as the modern images of fictional characters are used for advertisements.
