If I had to define the term race I would think of the human race. However, not everyone in the world sees things the same way that I do. For those people that think that we are all split up in to different races, they just need to learn that there is no real way to separate the people of the world in to races. With all the inter-race marriage that have taken place over the years there is no true race in the world so the only race there truly is on earth is the human race.

The thing that I find interesting is that I have come across some people that confuse race with ethnicity. With being in the military I have met people from different ethnic backgrounds. People from both different national origins and that have their own cultural patterns. I have had the experience that most people have not had the chance to have in their life.

The area I live in is a rural farming community where most people that live here were born here and have never left. Therefore they have not been exposed to the cultural diversity that I have. Unfortunately, this community does not handle change well including newcomers coming in, regardless of their race or ethnicity. The younger generations are doing much better than their elders have been. This community, in a sense, lives apart from the rest of U. S. society in that they do things differently than the more populated areas in the state and country. The fact remains that race and ethnicity will always be a part of society regardless of what we believe individually because we do not all believe the same way.
