There are several typical types of problems with information use in decision making, including several aspects of gather information and thinking process, that can be alleviated by such a BI system, such as information overload, data qualities, information politic, bound rationality, biases, unmotivated, difference, emotion and other factors. The details are following:

1. “Dashboards” and “extraction” ease the information overload problem. For instance, extraction can decrease the amount of data from many sources within a company.

2. “Data mining” analyzes the historical data. It makes the data more politic and qualities. In addition, the historical data source, the beginning of the data, can avoid the bound rationality problem.

3. “Predefined reports” and “Ad hoc querying and reporting” improve the qualities and politic of the information.

4. “Predictive analytics” avoids the biases problem. Because the sifting is by system not people.

5. “Event notification” can make people more motivated.

6. “Distribution” can release the difference of the decision making process.

In a word, the BI system can relatively avoid some problems that human make, such as “cognitive miser”, emotion problem, and alleviate problems in gather information process, including information overload, data qualities, information politic, and bound rationality.

BI is able to reduce limitations due to human ability or emotion when human gather the information, however, the system also can produce the limitation because it is system.

The system can make more political information and it safes the more time; therefore the system can improve the efficiency of customer. Furthermore, it provides a function that can let the company pay more attention to the trend of amount of customers. These two points are the most competitive advantages.
