Study Aids & Test Taking Strategies

Most all students want to do well in school. How much they care about doing well in school and the effort they give can differ between students. Some are naturally good at taking tests and find no struggle. Others are not as comfortable with tests and need to make an extra effort to succeed. In order to do well in any exam, students have to study. Without studying, there is a one in a million chance a student can do well. Studying well not only allows students to remember the material for the exam, but also for a longer term. Study aids and test taking strategies are two concepts that can help students perform well in their exams and courses as a whole.

Study aids are available to students in many different shapes and forms. In order to make proper use of these aids, students first must be aware that they can come from many different sources. Classrooms, teachers, textbooks, study sessions, office hours, and aids we create are some of many sources of aids that students can use to their advantage. Teachers and textbooks are great sources of study aids when new information is presented. Students may come across new material and have more difficulty in being able to apply the material to other circumstances. Study aids are useful with this by allowing the student to see the material applied in different ways and forms. The student can then learn and understand the information better and then possibly create his or her own study aids. Creating study aids on your own is a great way to self-test your information and elaborate the information in your head. Depending on your own academic goals, you own study aids can differ from someone else’s.
