Part I: Group Development

According to the Text, there are 5 stages of team development. The Forming stage is where the group members are getting to know each other and ask questions concerning contributions and needs. The Storming stage is where there is signs of hostility, and cliques may form. The Norming stage is where everyone works together to build relationships. The Performing Stage is where the team has developed more structure, with motivations from the team members. This stage shows a higher level of maturity. The Adjourning stage is when a group is able to separate when the work is completed.

The group appears to be in the storming stage, where tension is in the air. This is also shown by having unannounced meetings and distant feelings with Mike. As Team coordinator, Christine should have enforced some rules on team meetings. She was trying to be more understanding and sympathizing with Mike, but leaders should implement and put in place a regulated system. By having a better understanding of the group development stages, Christine can tackle the problem head on, and would be able to accomplish goals and move to the next stage successfully. Christine should have discussed any issues during the group meetings to try to resolve them with everyone present. All the issues need to be resolved before they can head into the norming stage.

Members in the storming stage need more communication from the leader as well as each other.

Part II: Problem Identification

A good manager should not only be able to coordinate and organize tasks, but should also be able to put out fire and control individuals as well. The problem with the group was that they did not voice what the dilemma was, and just went about with their assignments without Mike. There should have been more communication.
