Carton et al (2008) describe what they consider a “successful” enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation. What aspects of the project made it “successful” in their definition? Would your organization describe this as successful? Why or why not?

Carton, Adam, and Sammon describes how it was necessary to implement a multi-level structure that spans both the corporate and local levels. Through these structures, the ERP project was able to take time to select the members that would have the best qualifications for the project and allot them tasks that suits their expertise while also having the time to make any crucial decisions or remediate any costly mistakes. As stated in the article, ERP implementation is a huge task and management must create a team that would best suit the project as far as planning, execution, and control of the project.

I believe that my company would consider this project successful because one is taking the time to make sure that all aspects of the project is being taking care of by people that understand what they are doing and have the best knowledge of the task. Communicating with all members on all aspects of the project and learning from each other is another advantage that would definitely benefit any company including the one I work for. ERP allows the team to have time to test and fix any errors that have occurred during each stage, instead of finding these errors when all stages had been completed which would have delayed the project which makes it a successful project.
