Introduction

The paper will discuss a situation during which time I was in a leadership role. It will explain the four leadership theory types then, explain how two of them best describe my leadership style and how my leadership style applies to the presented leadership situation. The difference between management and leadership will be explained. Kotter’s recommended model for present and future leaders will be shared and how this model has brought leaders who implement his model continuous success.

Personal Leadership Experience

The leadership experience that will be shared is leading a team project in a Strategic Management Marketing Class. The assignment for the group was to develop a presentation in the form of an advertisement where we would have to sale our product to the company. The name of the company that the team had to create the advertisement for was Smith Kline and Beachem the pharmaceutical company. In order to get the team organized it was time to put the leadership skills to work. The project of creating the advertisement was very fun, interesting and took creativity and lots of hard work. The advertisement that the team made was to market an energy boost smoothie. The leadership experience was pretty good for what was known about leadership at that level. The creativity of the advertisement and getting the team organized did take some basic leadership characteristics such as creating a vision, knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the members on the team, the ability to delegate, to stay focused and motivated as well as to have compassion, organization & planning and confidence.

• vision-based leaders

• people-based leaders
