Jersey Cares’ industry is one of local, non-profit activities that primarily benefit the community in which the charity operates. The company describes itself as a “volunteer catalyst”, or an organization that facilitates volunteer work and connects volunteers to activities. The players in the industry organize charitable events, such as beach clean-ups, mural paintings, clothing drives and education workshops, and provide both advertising and administrative support to accomplish the task. These activities are staffed by volunteers who tend to come from the local community or businesses, and are funded by donations. Jersey Cares’ industry is related to that of other, global charitable organizations, such as the Salvation Army, the Red Cross or United Way. However, the local nonprofit industry is distinct in that, rather than focusing on a specific cause globally, organizations like Jersey Cares focus on the general needs of a specific community. They also bear distinctions from local organizations with more specific focuses, such as the DACKKs Group, which focuses on New Jersey homelessness specifically[1]. Rather than targeting a specific need, local generalized non-profits like Jersey Cares involve themselves in a wide array of community activities.

Jersey Cares stated mission is to increase civic engagement in New Jersey by coordinating volunteer opportunities to address community-identified needs[2]. For activities, it recruits volunteers, organizes the event, and provides administrative support. Community needs tend to be identified by partnering with local non-profits. Jersey Cares goal seems to be the volunteer-driven improvement of the quality of life in New Jersey.
