In America today, there has been a strain put on the health care system caused by often preventable ailments, illnesses, chronic diseases. Among the most prevalent and prolific is diabetes. There are host of questions generated by this segment of our population, such as who are they, what is the financial impact on our health care system, how and if a wellness program has an impact on this demographic of our population among other questions.
Summary
There is a crisis today in America, and is the in our health care system. There are two main factors contributing to this phenomenon, the rising number of uninsured individuals in our country and ever growing cost of health care and the number of chronically ill people on the rise nationally. Among these chronically ill people is one demographic that stands out considerably and they are the diabetic. Lets first start by saying that there are three main types (common types) of diabetes mellitus and they are Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, and Gestational diabetes.
The lack of affordable heath care has lead to an explosion of illnesses in our society. Many if not most of these illnesses and diseases resides in the minority population and rural areas of our country. With the implementation of wellness programs in affected communities through a public / private partnership such as community hospitals, local officials, and NGO’s (such as the American Red Cross and Local Churches), we can educate the public in making better choices for improving their health and lowering the cost of health care for everyone at the same time.
