Personal Responsibility Goes Hand-in-Hand with College Success

Defining personal responsibility is probably the easiest concept that I have ever had to define. It is everything that a person has control over in her life. Some examples of personal responsibility are finances, family, health, and education. Realizing that personal responsibility is important is one of the main keys to success. Although there are some students working full-time, raising a family or both while going to college, the key to a successful college education is discipline and taking responsibility for your life because what you obtain from college is directly reflected on the amount of effort that you put into it, and you have to realize that there is not going to be anyone there to hold your hand to make sure you get the work done.

The key to a successful college education is discipline and taking responsibility for everything in your life, including your education. You need to make sure that you can set aside some quiet study time, whether it is after the children go to bed or are in school. The one thing that has helped me is to make a to-do list every day of what you need to get accomplished and what you want to get accomplished. Include things outside of school as well. If you have to go to the grocery store, put that on the list. Avoid studying on one subject too much. Organize your time so that you can split up the amount of work that you put into each subject or project.

Having self-control is important as well. There are so many things that change when you go to college. They seem to change all at once. It can be overwhelming sometimes. This is the time that students experience their first apartment, their first credit card, and in some cases their first job.
