Initial Analysis of Eastvaco and the Charlotte Facility

Read the financial statements and supplemental information provided by the 10-K submission and the Charlotte facility schedules. Attempt to gain some insight into how the company and its Charlotte plant are doing. Specifically, answer the following:

1. What do you see as Eastvaco’s strengths and weaknesses?

Strengths:

* Owns 1,466,000 acres in the United States and Brazil

* Access to additional wood sources thru Eastvaco’s Cooperative Forest Management program

* Inventory of growing trees has increased steadily over the last decade in spite of increase harvest

* Charlotte plant going green has reduced carbon footprint and has an emphasis on recycled products

* Eastvaco hold numerous foreign and domestic patents from research and product development efforts.

* Strong research and development department which aligns to the company’s business plan to offer quality, value-added products that are innovative and highly designed.

Weaknesses:

* Eastvaco forest are being depleted rapidly without any foreseeable future...
